I love watching movies and reading books, and I'm mostly a big fan of fiction. When it comes to movies, my favourite genres are sci-fi, thrillers and drama: anything with a great story and characters that stay with you. I don't watch TV or have any streaming subscriptions, so for me movies are all about the theatre experience. I make sure to catch at least one on the big screen every month. This is where I'll share my honest thoughts on what I've been watching and reading.
This was the first movie I watched in the UK, so it will always be special to me. I fell in love with the atmosphere it creates; it truly made me feel like I had travelled back to the 1800s. The acting is stunning, especially Bill Skarsgård, who once again proves he is the master of playing an unforgettable horror villain after It.
The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. An epic journey from start to finish, with breathtaking landscapes, unforgettable characters and a story about friendship, courage and sacrifice. As a big fan of fiction, this series is everything I love about the genre, and it still holds up today. Critics agreed: The Return of the King swept all 11 Oscars it was nominated for, including Best Picture.
It isn't perfect, though. Each film runs close to three hours, and the pacing drags in places, especially the many "endings" of The Return of the King. Book fans will also notice what was left out, like Tom Bombadil and the Scouring of the Shire. Small complaints for a series this ambitious.
One of the most underrated movies I have ever watched. It was way ahead of its time in how it portrayed the LGBTQ+ community. It also sheds light on the lives of struggling families, and on the responsibilities people carry and the sacrifices they make for the ones they love. Romantic dramas like this are quite rare!
I loved the plot. This was really my kind of movie! Emma Stone gives yet another stunning performance; she earned an Oscar nomination for this role, and honestly I think she deserved a third win. The film gave me a deep appreciation for the screenwriter, Will Tracy, who adapted it from the 2003 Korean film Save the Green Planet!
Amazing movie! While it's a horror film, I found it quite amusing. My friend pointed out to me that it's based on a video game, but I loved the dialogue, and the actors really did it justice. They sure did!
I loved the plot: an actor whose fate changes with one mistake desperately tries to win back his life and his face. The cinematography is beautiful. I'm not a big fan of DC or Marvel, but I surely loved this one. Fair warning though: it's grotesque in places, and one scene had me covering my eyes!
